摘要: OBJECTIVE: This study was aimed to assess the effect of unilateral common carotid artery occlusion on brain pathophysiology in rats pretreated with subchronic hypoxia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Rats (200 ± 20 g) were randomized into three groups: Group 1 served as sham, 2 normoxic (21% O2 and 79% N2), 3 hypoxia preconditioned (10% 90% N2) for 21 days before left (LCCAO). The LCCAO done 75 min followed by reperfusion 12 h. Neurological scores recorded. Serum malondialdehyde (MDA) nitric oxide (NO) levels at pre- h post-LCCAO measured. Brain histopathological assessments also done. RESULTS: Higher neurological deficits compared noticed. MDA NO showed significant elevation preocclusion levels. did not show such elevations. On histopathology right cerebral hemispheres (sham) any specific changes. In rats, hemisphere (nonoccluded) no areas ischemia-induced changes, but side (occlusive), there features ischemic damage including edema. case less damages occluded rats. CONCLUSION: clearly demonstrates that pretreatment can reduce injury
