摘要: BACKGROUND: To evaluate the relation between non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and colitis due to inflammatory bowel disease. METHODS: A case-control study was conducted using a prospectively constructed, record linkage database containing hospital event dispensed drug data (1989-93). The population consisted of 319,465 people resident in Tayside January 1989, still (or dead) October 1994. RESULTS: Of 785 patients admitted as emergencies with July 1989 June 1993, 200 fulfilled case criterion further 1198 persons were used community controls. Odds ratios calculated for three exposure periods (current, recent, past exposure). overall odds (with 95% confidence intervals) current recent NSAIDs 1.77 (1.01 3.10) 1.93 (1.20 3.09) respectively. Current also associated incident cases, 2.96 (1.32 6.64) 2.51 (1.13 5.55). There trend among non-incident cases. CONCLUSION: use may be an increased risk emergency admission disease, particularly no previous history.
