摘要: Abstract Background Non-convulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) has been increasingly recognized as a cause of impaired level consciousness in the ICU and emergency rooms. The diagnosis can be easily missed without an electroencephalogram (EEG) given paucity overt clinical signs this condition. Recently few published data estimated prevalence to between 3% 8%. Objective To assess rate occurrence NCSE among patients with various degrees referred Neurophysiology Laboratory at Vancouver General Hospital. Method We conducted retrospective analysis 451 adult (>16 years age) question or unknown 2002 2004. was defined according Young's criteria electrographic epilepticus. categorized into focal generalized epileptic activity based on continuous EEG monitoring (CEEG). Further age, gender etiology performed. Results Of patients, demonstrated no 42 (9.3%). Median age 61.8 (range 21–94). According etiology, 38.1% had hypoxic–anoxic injury, 19% intracerebral hemorrhage (including trauma), 11.9% idiopathic cryptogenic epilepsy, 7.1% ischemic stroke, 4.8% were secondary tumors viral encephalitis. Conclusion decreased 9.3%. cohort represented group who comatose required assisted ventilation altered consciousness. Hypoxic brain injury most responsible studied.
