摘要: In this paper a technique for assessing the relative performance of firms is introduced and applied to sample hospitals in California. Hospitals are compared on basis their technical efficiency. The reference technology constructed from observed outputs inputs (including physicians) using programming techniques, efficiency assessed frontier measures similar those suggested by Farrell. used here imposes no prespecified functional form, allows multiple (allowing differences case mix), yields information productive individual hospitals. This can also be determine whether different types use technologies. Our results, although illustrative rather than definitive, suggest that ownership affects 'efficiency' as measured here: public NFP have 'different' best practice frontiers, appear relatively fewer resources. These results could reflect quality care ownership.
