Farmers' knowledge, perceptions and management of diseases affecting sweet potatoes in the Lake Victoria Zone region, Tanzania

摘要: The purpose of this study was to assess farmers' knowledge, perception and management sweet potato (SP) diseases, determine factors associated with satisfaction planting material in Mwanza Mara sites within the Lake Victoria Zone region Tanzania. We used multiple methods data sources, principally a survey 621 households spread across nine districts, in-depth interviews farmers three villages located different districts. Our revealed four main findings. Firstly, we found that although were able identify unhealthy SP plants, they unable tell specific type disease affecting plants both from direct photographic observations. Secondly, there exists considerable heterogeneity way manage field; some observed follow prescribed by plant pathologists, while others traditional managing diseased plant. Thirdly, following be determinants knowledge diseases root damage: (i) training production management; (ii) number plots which woman household has control over; (iii) membership crop association. Lastly, location farms is strong determinant vines; residing areas vines are widely available village accessible primary road or tarmac increases farmer's farm during time.
