摘要: In this chapter, the state of art research fluvial processes and their linkages with ecology are presented, a focus on European physical context. river systems have experienced long history catchment-wide (land-use changes) in-channel human disturbances (channelization, dams, sediment mining, etc.). many rivers, impacts morphology culminated in twentieth century, particularly during recent decades, major alterations to functioning also forecast for nearby future due climate changes. Considerable progress understanding, quantifying, modeling channel has emerged from findings transport, bank erosion, formation various patterns rivers discussed. Major concepts linking structure ecosystem followed by discussion geomorphic connectivity, habitat heterogeneity, scale flood disturbance riverine ecosystems. With increasing emphasis reestablishing good ecological quality an improved understanding hydromorphology biodiversity defining scientific bases management restoration use process-oriented approach necessary.
