摘要: PURPOSE To compare the expression of pro- and anti-inflammatory forms interleukin (IL)-1 in tear fluid conjunctival epithelium normal eyes those with dry-eye disease. METHODS The concentrations IL-1 alpha, beta (precursor mature forms), receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) were measured by ELISA samples obtained from individuals patients dry eye who had rosacea-associated meibomian gland disease (MGD) or Sjogren's syndrome (SS) aqueous deficiency (ATD). These cytokines also before after nasal stimulation to induce reflex tearing. relative these was evaluated impression cytology specimens biopsy tissue subjects SS ATD-affected using immunofluorescent staining. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 concentration activity gelatin zymography an MMP-9 assay kit, respectively. RESULTS Compared subjects, alpha increased, precursor decreased MGD (P < 0.05, P = 0.02, 0.01, respectively) ATD 0.001, respectively). There no significant change beta, IL-1Ra fluid, indicating that lacrimal glands may secrete cytokines. MMP-9, a physiological activator significantly elevated both groups compared subjects. A strong positive correlation observed between intensity corneal fluorescein staining (r(2) 0.17, 0.02) mature-to-precursor ratio 0.46, 0.001). Positive for greater percentage than 0.01 0.009 0.05 IL-1Ra). CONCLUSIONS Dry-eye is accompanied increase proinflammatory (IL-1 beta) decrease biologically inactive fluid. Increased protease on ocular surface be one mechanism which cleaved mature, active form. appears source increased results suggest play key role pathogenesis keratoconjunctivitis sicca.
