摘要: Objectives: Pre-analytic errors during diagnostic laboratory investigations can lead to increased patient morbidity and mortality. This study aimed ascertain the effect of educational nursing activities on incidence pre-analytical resulting in non-conforming blood samples. Methods: This was conducted between January 2008 December 2015. All specimens received at Haematology Laboratory Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Muscat, Oman, this period were prospectively collected analysed. Similar data from 2007 retrospectively used as a baseline for comparison. Non-conforming samples defined either clotted samples, haemolysed use wrong anticoagulant, insufficient quantities collected, incorrect/lack labelling sample or lack delivery spite request. From onwards, multiple training directed hospital staff students primarily responsible collection implemented regular basis. Results: After initiating corrective measures 2008, progressive reduction percentage observed 2009 onwards. Despite 127.84% increase total number received, there significant 0.29% 0.07% 2015, an improvement 75.86% (P <0.050). In particular, specimen identification decreased by 0.056%, with 96.55% improvement. Conclusion: Targeted towards had positive impact quality significantly reducing errors.
