摘要: Some 100 million babies are born worldwide each year; 4 in the United States alone. Approximately 10% of all newborns need some assistance to begin breathing at birth, and 1% require intensive resuscitative efforts such as endotracheal intubation chest compressions. (1) Babies not receiving timely help can die or suffer lifelong morbidity. Historically, training neonatal resuscitation, most medicine, has been accomplished by assuming graduated responsibility care real patients. This apprenticeship model medical education places a trainee supervised environment for set period time, with expectation that guided experience will lead acquisition skills adequate enough independent, competent practice community. Underlying this is an assumption number variety cases experienced be sufficient depth breadth ensure competence close period. Often, case. Thomas Krummel, MD, Chair, Department Surgery, Stanford University, termed type “education random opportunity.” The Accreditation Council Graduate Medical Education, body responsible accreditation post-MD programs States, establishes program requirements pediatric residency education. The state curriculum must designed teach resuscitation delivery room. These same guidelines, however, limit time residents spend unit. (2) Investigations anesthesia have shown 40 60 attempts …
