摘要: Abstract Around 100 studies have been conducted to examine the ‘Werther effect’ – phenomenon whereby there is an increased rate of completed or attempted suicide following depiction individual’s in media. These ‘media influence studies’ provide strong evidence for existence Werther effect news media, and equivocal its entertainment Having established this, now a need complement these media with inter-related that draw on approaches from range disciplines, particularly communication. The can be thought as investigating full spectrum processes content, how stories are produced (news/entertainment production studies), what information they contain this framed (content analysis received perceived (audience reception studies). This will assist explicating mechanisms by which might operate, designing evaluating interventions improve practices professionals.
