摘要: Objective Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt surgery is the predominant mode of therapy for patients with hydrocephalus. However, it has potential complications that may require multiple surgical procedures during a patient's lifetime. The objective this study to review our long-term experience and evaluate risk factors VP failure after initial subsequent revisions. Methods Patients who underwent hydrocephalus were included. Medical charts, operative reports, imaging studies, clinical follow-up evaluations reviewed analyzed retrospectively. Results A total 1015 median age 41.6 (range, 0–90.3) years at time mean follow up was 9.2 6.5 years, respectively. Adult (≥17 years) accounted 70.0% patients. overall rate requiring revision(s) 46.3%, majority revisions occurred first 6 months placement. revision significantly greater in pediatric ( 17 (78.2% vs. 32.5%, P patients; male had odds than female Conclusion findings indicate placement, etiology hydrocephalus, type previous treatments before independently associated survival. Prospective controlled studies are required address observed associations between incidence these
