摘要: Rice as the single most important human energy source feeds about half of world’s population. The predicted Asian famines during 1980s (Ehrlich, 1968) were averted by development high yielding rice varieties between 1965 and 1975. In India production 1950–51 which was 20.58 million tonnes with a productivity 668 kg per ha rose to 79.6 1995-96 an average 1856 ha. in Tamil Nadu follows: Year Production (100,000 tons) Productivity (kg/ha) 1950s 27.5 1306 1960s 38.1 1484 1970s 51.5 1942 1980s 51.7 2417 1990s (93-94) 64.8 3069 1996 70.0 -
