摘要: RATIONALE The integrity of the biological phosphate oxygen isotope (δ18Op) signal is thought to be contingent upon complete removal competing sources such as associated organic matter. A range pretreatment methods purify material from has been reported, with contradictory evidence on usefulness and efficiency one or another. Yet, a systematic comparison these techniques for bioapatite not conducted. METHODS Chemical thermal were tested their effectiveness at removing matter likelihood that they modify original δ18O values. The test was performed in inorganic (synthetic apatite phosphorite rock) (bone tooth tissues) materials which we had an expectation actual δ18Op value. Analysis nitrogen content (wt.%), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy employed. RESULTS We detected variable between no correlation any specific structural change. results showed considerable variation samples pretreated different untreated samples, compositional up 4.5 ‰ bone samples. Variations values within error found enamel, rock apatite. CONCLUSIONS We recommend cautious approach when interpreting comparing data treated protocols. In general, seem show closer expected ones. According our results, completely unnecessary highly mineralized tissues. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
