Resistance through Video Game Play: It’s a Boy Thing

摘要: The male youth in our study used video games to resist institutional authority, hegemonic masculinity, and femininity. Videogame play offered them a safe place which was often limited small acts of adolescent defiance that could limit their future ability engage thoughtfully critically the world. This resistance shaped reinforced identity formation supported traditional literacy practices they considered more feminine. Adults were absent from play; hence had no mentorship critiquing worldview presented videogames. Key words: identity, critical literacy, alternative literacies Dans cette etude, les garcons se sont servis de jeux pour resister l’autorite institutionnelle ainsi qu’a une representation hegemonique la masculinite et feminite. Ces leur offraient un espace dans lequel ils pouvaient en toute securite opposer sous forme modestes gestes defi typiques des adolescents. risquaient toutefois limiter capacite s’engager le monde avec serieux faisant preuve d’un esprit critique. Cette faconne renforce identite concordait contestation methodes litteratie traditionnelles qu’ils consideraient comme plutot feminines. Les adultes etaient absents lors leurs ; jeunes n’avaient donc pas mentors critiquer vision du presentee video. Mots cles : masculinite, identite, litteratie, critique, litteraties alternatives.
