Voices of the dammed: discursive resistance amidst erasure in the Narmada Valley, India

摘要: Abstract This paper analyses the conflict surrounding construction of mega-dams along Narmada river valley in central India. In particular, examines various repertoires resistance employed by Bachao Andolan (save movement, NBA) principal protagonist resisting development project. Various spaces economic, cultural, ecological, and political erasure are engendered dams, NBA articulates resistance, engages constructive alternatives, each these spaces. The discursive articulations provide a crucial counterpoint to material expressions struggle. Discursive takes form academic analyses, peasant testimonials slogans. Utilising Warren’s concept testimonios, argues that movement identity unity effaces internal difference, contradiction ambiguity. concludes with some thoughts on role academics highlighting such ambiguities, context collaboration social movements.
