Can peripheral hearing justify the speech disorders in children with operated cleft palate

摘要: Introduction  Any impairment in the hearing ability of a child with cleft lip and palate may cause difficulties receptive expressive language. Purpose  Check association between velopharyngeal dysfunction (VPD), compensatory articulation (CA), peripheral loss children surgery. Methods  Retrospective study 60 (group 1: presence VPD CA; group 2: absence VPD, 3: VDP, 4: CA), age 4 to 5 years old, surgery, through analysis hearing, VP, speech evaluations. Results  Group presented 80% normal hearing; 1 had 60% loss. The conductive type was most frequent. glottal stop frequent middorsum palatal plosive 2. There no significant ( p  = 0.05) articulations (groups 2 4), nor 3 4;  = 0.12). Statistical significance  = 0.025) found when associated CA, that is, control 4). Conclusion  Significant loss, articulations, verified for 1, which not only but also VPD.
