摘要: Satellite radar altimeters have improved our knowledge of Arctic sea ice thickness over the past decade. The main sources uncertainty in retrievals are associated with inadequate snow layer depth and interaction pack. Here we adapt a method deriving freeboard from CryoSat-2 to data AltiKa Ka band altimeter 2013–14 growth season. measures basin-averaged freeboards between 4.4 cm 6.9 larger than October March, respectively. Using airborne laser measurements spring 2013 2014, estimate effective scattering horizon for each sensor. While echoes penetrate surface first-year majority (82 ± 3%) multiyear ice, scattered roughly midpoint (46 5%) both types.
