摘要: Abundant calcispheres occur in Upper Carnian and Norian hemipelagic limestone successions of the Southern Apennines Sicily. They exhibit a variety morphologies that were investigated with optical scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The most common morphology is full solid sphere radiaxial calcite crystals, 20–22 μm diameter on average, or without minor hollow center. Smaller forms may be clusters sub-micron only rarely disposed as to form spherical test 10 less. Larger are similar small (clusters spheres crystals) an epitaxial overgrowth. taxonomic attribution these uncertain, mostly because their poor preservation, but comparison possible some Mesozoic attributed calcareous dinocysts. amount overgrowth variable, cases much larger than original sphere. This prevents significant evaluation contribution carbonate pelagic sedimentation by point counting thin-section. However, it can shown become abundant after major climatic perturbation dated at end Early Carnian, known Pluvial Event (CPE). event involved strong prolonged enhancement hydrological cycle, consequent supply excess hydrogen oceans increased seawater alkalinity. Although this type least from Middle Triassic, shortly CPE they abundant, first occurrence nannoplankton western Tethys thus Late age.
