Police violence and sexual risk among female and transvestite sex workers in Serbia: qualitative study

摘要: Objective To explore female and transvestite sex workers’ perceptions of risk in the work environment Serbia. Design Qualitative interview study. Setting Street based locations for Belgrade Pancevo, Participants 31 workers. Results Violence, including police violence, was reported as a primary concern relation to risk. Violence linked unprotected reduced capacity avoiding sexual that coerced routinely provided exchange freedom from detainment, arrest, or fine, enforced by perceived threat sometimes realised. Accounts contained multiple instances physical assault, presented abuses authority, described policing form moral punishment. This largely through non-physical means but also especially towards Roma workers, whose experience violence relentless brutal connected with broader social forces discrimination this setting, Roma. Conclusion Preventing which can link vulnerability sexually transmitted infections, is priority requires monitoring perpetrators providing legal support creating safer environments work.
