摘要: Summary  Translocating birds to a new area of habitat restore or supplement depleted populations may pose significant threat the translocated individuals. While for many species, individuals appear move larger distances than resident animals, species with poor dispersal capacity be restricted in movements and translocation methods need accommodate differences ensure success. In this study, designed provide insights inform our broader programme translocations New South Wales, Australia, we investigated post-release endangered, semi-flightless Eastern Bristlebird (Dasyornis brachypterus). We predicted that would minimal, few between males females, similar published information un-manipulated population. Following release 45 at host location Jervis Bay, NSW, over 3-year programme, followed up 2 weeks using radio-tracking. The had maximum moved through much home ranges non-translocated from Translocated 300 m further after when conspecifics were present. Males females tended have ranges, although average daily displacement did not differ. concluded semi-flightlessness does result minimal movements. Release small number locations was considered appropriate as animals seem enough find unoccupied areas relatively short period. This work provided us increasing confidence continue translocations.
