Cigarette Smoking in Same-Sex and Different-Sex Unions: The Role of Socioeconomic and Psychological Factors

摘要: Cigarette smoking has long been a target of public health intervention because it substantially contributes to morbidity and mortality. Individuals in different-sex marriages have lower risk (i.e., prevalence frequency) than cohabiters. However, little is known about the individuals same-sex cohabiting unions. We compare marriages, unions, unions using pooled cross-sectional data from 1997–2010 National Health Interview Surveys (N = 168,514). further examine role socioeconomic status (SES) psychological distress relationship between union smoking. Estimates multinomial logistic regression models reveal that cohabiters experience similar when compared one another, higher married. Results suggest SES factors cannot fully explain differences married groups. Moreover, without cohabiter’s education advantage, would even greater relative Policy recommendations reduce disparities among are discussed.
