Deciding the fate of supernumerary frozen embryos: a survey of couples’ decisions and the factors influencing their choice

摘要: Objective To investigate the decisions that couples make regarding supernumerary frozen embryos, factors influencing these decisions, and degree of difficulty involved in reaching a decision; to canvass attitudes toward donating embryos stem-cell research. Design Anonymous postal survey. Setting A large, private IVF clinic major city Victoria, Australia. Patient(s) consecutive cohort who contacted Monash relation long-term storage. Intervention(s) Subjects completed survey about surplus embryos. Main Outcome Measure(s) Couples' decision reasons for decision, experience deciding, embryo donation Result(s) Forty percent (123/311) returned questionnaires. The most common was research (42%). Altruistic motives desire not waste were determinants donation.
