摘要: OF DISSERTATION FORAGING AND ROOSTING BEHAVIORS RAFINESQUE’S BIG-EARED BAT (CORYNORHINUS RAFINESQUII) AT THE NORTHERN EDGE SPECIES RANGE Bat populations in the eastern United States are currently declining at unprecedented rates as a result of habitat loss, commercial wind energy development, and white-nose syndrome. Effective conservation these requires knowledge several aspects summer winter ecology, including daytime use (day-roost selection social behaviors), nocturnal (foraging selection, prey abundance), hibernation (torpor) patterns. This dissertation addresses questions for Rafinesque’s big-eared bat (Corynorhinus rafinesquii), species concern southeastern States. Kentucky represents northern edge range bat, behaviors likely to differ from what has been observed southern portion range, where available habitats climate different. My research occurred two study areas Kentucky, Mammoth Cave National Park central Ballard Wildlife Management western Kentucky. includes all work done I radio-tagged 48 adult bats documented nighttime use. Also included is focusing on patterns 14 radiotagged during Cave. Data disseminated this provide insights into ecology can be used manage threatened by loss
