摘要: Background Ophthalmic complications of pediatric diabetes are rare, and rates unknown in Haitian youth. Objectives To determine the prevalence predictors diabetic retinopathy (DR) cataracts a cohort youth with insulin-treated diabetes. Methods We performed cross-sectional retrospective review patients from chronic disease center Haiti, December 1, 2012 to November 2016. Data collection included demographic anthropometric information, total daily insulin dose result eye examination by local ophthalmologist. Results Of 67 (54% female, mean age at diagnosis 14.6 ± 3.9 years, duration 3.3 3.0 HbA1c 84 22 mmol/mol (9.8% 2.0%), current requirement 0.49 0.28 IU/kg/day), DR was diagnosed 10/57 (18%) 10/62 (16%), 19.0 4.3 19.1 respectively. Diabetes 4.9 5.4 1.5 years time cataracts, Age complication, requirement, sex, body mass index, family history, were not significant an ocular complication. Conclusions In this youth, occur prematurely. Low-insulin requirements after diagnosis, possibly allowing for prolonged undetected hyperglycemia prediagnosis, may explain complication risk. The phenotypes populations African ancestry be distinct. Ophthalmologic evaluation should start screening guidelines need adapted.
