摘要: Summary Medullary carcinoma of the thyroid (MCT), tumor entity related to parafollicular C cells gland, is characterized by peculiar morphological, functional and behavioral features. Apart from constant finding calcitonin production MCT, heterogeneous patterns growth as well different associations with other lesions in setting MEN II syndrome have been observed. This review addresses these points, were discussed at 1992 European School Pathology courses. Heterogeneity histological MCT suggests caution interpretation any tumor. Immunohistochemical demonstration apparently only valid criterion for a differential diagnosis. A correct identification important individual patient (to plan proper therapy) but also patient's relatives screen familiar cases syndromes.
