Whispering gallery states of neutrons and anti-hydrogen atoms and their applications to fundamental and surface physics

摘要: The ‘whispering gallery’ effect has been known since ancient times for sound waves in air, later water and more recently a broad range of electromagnetic waves: radio, optics, Roentgen so on. It is intensively used explored due to its numerous crucial applications. consists wave localization near curved reflecting surface expected various natures, instance, neutrons (anti)atoms. For (anti)matter waves, it includes new feature: massive particle settled quantum states, with parameters depending on mass. In this talk, we present the first observation whispering-gallery matter particles (cold neutrons) 1-2 . This phenomenon provides an example exactly solvable problem analogous ‘quantum bouncer’; complementary discovered gravitational states 3 These two phenomena provide direct demonstration weak equivalence principle state. Deeply bound long-living are weakly sensitive potential; highly excited short-living very wall nuclear potential shape.
