摘要: The risks of betel quid chewing with or without tobacco, alcohol drinking and cigarette smoking have been well explored in the oral cavity but not pharynx larynx. We conducted a case-control study to investigate association these three risk factors cancers larynx Taiwan. A total cases 148 pharyngeal cancer, 128 laryngeal cancer 255 hospital controls, all men, were recruited. Betel was significant independent factor (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 7.7; 95% confidence interval [CI] 4.1-15.0) similar that (aOR 6.6; CI 3.5-13.0) for 1.3; 0.7-2.5) on which 7.1) exerts stronger than 3.8). For cancers, chewers who consumed >20 quid/day, chewed inflorescence swallowed juice at higher risks; dose-response effects found daily quantity chewing, cumulative drinking. Synergistic from 3 existed both 96.9) 40.3), attributed 93.1% 92.9% respectively. Our is first evidence show tobacco has different impact (digestive tract) (airway), supports concept exposure direct mucosal contact may contribute carcinogenesis. results an important insight into other sites digestive tract cavity.
