摘要: A novel technique to investigate the interactions between bitumen and clays in an aqueous solution from measurement of zeta potential distributions is described. For a single component suspension (i.e., clay or bitumen), modal distribution was obtained under given condition. In case two-component clay) mixture system, measured showed either one two peaks, depending on chemical condition type/amount present. absence added calcium ions, emulsion exhibited distinct corresponding peaks individually for clays, respectively. With addition 1 mM however, only peak montmorillonite suspension. Depending ratio, position this shifted toward value alone. kaolinite, ions did not cause substantial change bimodal distribution. The results suggest qualitatively stronger interaction with than kaolinite clay, when were slime coating droplets presence validated. conclusions study further justified our mechanistic hypothesis observed depression flotation by but added. This demonstrated that could be powerful tool phenomena complex colloidal system.
