摘要: Intricate detail of stratigraphy and structure, to depths about 5000 feet (probably Miocene), is shown in Rayflex Electro-Sonic Profiler records collected on the continental shelf upper slope northwest Gulf Mexico. The a continuous-recording, acoustic reflection surveying system which utilizes high-intensity spark source, rather than chemical explosives. recorded sections terrace this area show essentially horizontally stratified deposits underlying shelf, littoral, deltaic, lagoonal, facies) changing smoothly over break into seaward-dipping deposits. part has thus formed during late Tertiary Quaternary by both upbuilding outbuilding. This basic framework been modified locally folding faulting, are largely associated with salt or shale intrusion structures. irregular topography slope, previously attributed slumping, gravity tectonics, turbidity current erosion, be controlled these intrusive structures varying amounts contemporaneous deposition sediment. No evidence extensive erosion survey.
