摘要: Personality, i.e. consistent between-individual differences in behaviour, has been documented many species. Yet little is known about how males and females of long-lived, highly social species differ their measures personality structure. We investigated sex the mean, variance, covariance three previously reported traits (Attentiveness, Sociability, Aggressiveness) 150 female 107 male Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) from a semi-captive population Myanmar. These were obtained by performing exploratory factor analysis on 28 behavioural items that had rated experienced elephant handlers. found scored significantly higher Aggressiveness tended to score lower Sociability than females. However, no difference was mean scores Attentiveness. Variances for did not between sexes, suggesting share same range variation. Likewise, trait covariances similar sexes. While both sexes show complex sociality wild, typically live family units, whereas elephants’ bonds are weaker. Males usually form dominance ranks aggressive interactions, especially during musth. Our results large sample individuals living natural environment thus agreement with life-histories parallel findings other long-lived life-histories.
