A mechanism for driving the gross Birkeland current configuration in the auroral oval

摘要: Birkeland (field-aligned) sheet currents flowing into and out of the auroral oval as reported by Zmuda Armstrong (1974) are integrally associated with convective motion plasma in magnetotail. It is demonstrated that these can be driven energy supplied braking this particles they drift toward flanks magnetosphere. In ionosphere close Pedersen currents, resulting dissipation power, while far from earth closure which provide force for plasma, flow approximately normal to neutral radial distances about 80 RE. During periods moderate magnetospheric activity result a rate order 10 GW.
