摘要: Understanding how social relationships affect long-term stress is important because has a profound impact on the welfare of animals and often exert strong influence their responses. The purpose this study was to investigate relationship between behaviors levels as assessed by hair cortisol (HC) concentration. subjects were 11 chimpanzees living in an all-male group (divided into two sub-groups) Kumamoto Sanctuary, Kyoto University, Japan. Behavioral data collected December 2014 March 2015. total observation time 129 h. Hair samples late early April 2015, extracted from measured with enzyme immunoassay. growth rate estimated be 1.33 ± 0.06 cm/month. results revealed that there positive correlation receiving aggression HC levels. We also found significant negative balance giving grooming (grooming index: GBI), which calculated subtracting given it received, GBI Thus, individuals higher tended give for relatively long periods compared they being groomed. In contrast, initiating did not have either or any measure grooming. find buffering effects, no mutual These show only aggressive interactions but overall situations do balanced others might result elevation captive male chimpanzees.
