摘要: Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) involves the ecological restoration of degraded forest landscapes, with aim benefiting both biodiversity and human well-being. We first identify four fundamental principles FLR, based on previous definitions. then critically evaluate application these in practice, experience gained during an international, collaborative research project conducted six dry landscapes Latin America. Research highlighted potential for FLR; tree species high socioeconomic value were identified all study areas, strong dependence local communities resources was widely encountered, particularly fuelwood. demonstrated that FLR can be achieved through passive active approaches, cost-effective if increased provision ecosystem services is taken into account. These results therefore highlight positive contribution it could make to sustainable development. However, we also encountered a number challenges implementation, including difficulty achieving engagement activities among stakeholders, lack capacity community-led initiatives, appropriate institutional regulatory environment support activities. Successful implementation will require new alliances empowerment building enable them fully engage activities, enabling public policy context people participants decision making process.
