摘要: Small-scale analogue models were used to investigate the process of Cretaceous orthogonal extension in West Antarctic Rift System. The considered transition from East Craton a weaker lithosphere, and results support previous hypotheses about strong control exerted by lateral variations lithospheric structures on extension. Strain was mostly accommodated at boundary between two types with relative uplift cratonic block which remained essentially undeformed. Conversely, lithosphere showed wide-rifting style geometry, locally associated core complex-like structures. In agreement natural prototype, this tectonic scenario led long-lasting without continental break-up, absence relevant surface magmatism. © 2007 Blackwell Publishing Ltd.
