Electrochemical characterization of radiation-grafted ion-exchange membranes based on different matrix polymers

摘要: Seven proton conducting membranes based on different commercial fluoropolymer films were prepared by radiation grafting with styrene followed sulfonation. These studied as candidates for fuel cell electrolyte and compared to Nafion® 105 117 respect conductivity, oxygen hydrogen permeability, kinetics of the reduction reaction (ORR) performance in a cell. The dependence conductivity relative humidity (RH) temperature was also determined. observed depend membrane thickness water uptake. RH same all experimental membranes. Reactant gas permeabilities appeared only slightly matrix material no major differences Tafel slopes exchange current densities ORR observed. Membranes high uptakes be less durable than low uptakes. Thus prepare that is under conditions, uptake must remain even at expense conductivity.
