摘要: We show that a simple model involving two narrow (\ensuremath{\simeq}500 K) peaks in the density of states (DOS) at edges (\ensuremath{\simeq}1000 gap can account for observed anomalies magnetic susceptibility, specific heat, thermal expansion, and elastic response FeSi. also resistivity FeSi, including metal-insulator ``transition'' about 300 K, is well described by this model. Recent band-structure calculations, although predicting correct value semiconducting gap, are unable to DOS needed explain thermodynamics. conclude that, given available alternatives, Kondo insulator description---involving an extreme renormalization noninteracting bands---is most appropriate
