摘要: Zinc oxide has been widely used as a white artist pigment since the end of eighteenth century. The luminescence properties this compound have received great interest during last decades for promising applications in different fields material science, but their diagnostic implications cultural-heritage context poorly exploited. This paper is intended to provide clear picture behavior zinc oil paintings. With aim, three pigments and highly pure (analytical grade) oxides were studied powder substrates painting models by ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS) fluorescence Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. quenching intensity UV excitonic emission due self-absorption multiple scattering phenomena investigated, pointing out possible difficulty detecting signal with negative consequences diagnostics works art.
