摘要: Purpose To assess the use of intracameral cefazolin in preventing endophthalmitis cataract surgery. Setting Ophthalmology Department, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain. Methods This study was phacoemulsification procedures performed from January 2002 to December 2007. In 2004, given at end surgery added prophylaxis protocol The cumulative incidence postoperative before and after addition compared. Results During period, 18 579 were performed. 2-year period introduction prophylaxis, 25 cases diagnosed 5930 surgeries, leading a 0.422% (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.279%-0.613%). After cefazolin, 6 12 649 an 0.047% CI, 0.019%-0.099%). When only microbiologically proven considered, 0.388% 0.252%-0.572%) first 0.032% 0.010%-0.076%) second (P Conclusions A 2.5 mg/0.1 mL bolus provided excellent prophylactic effectiveness, with reduction 0.047%, corresponding relative risk 88.7% 72.6%-95.4%). Cefazolin fulfills international recommendations on antimicrobial for surgical site infections is easier obtain developing countries.
