Effect of cracking in diffusion aluminide coatings on their cyclic oxidation performance on Ti-based IMI-834 alloy

摘要: Abstract Diffusion aluminide coatings improve the high temperature oxidation resistance of Ti-alloys. This study evaluates a Al3Ti type coating and Pt-aluminide on Ti-alloy IMI-834, at 650, 750 850 °C under cyclic conditions in air. Both provide good resistance, however, extent through-thickness cracking localized degradation substrate increases with thermal cycling. At 850 °C, TiO2 outgrowths emanate from these cracks, resulting prominent mud-crack pattern surface. The possible effect such long-term properties has been discussed.
