摘要: Background: Prenatal screening and the promotion of folic acid intake could affect incidence neural tube defects (NTDs). We examined trends in total NTD incidence, as detected live births, stillbirths therapeutic abortions, from 1986 to 1999 Ontario. Methods: To capture cases NTDs we used data Canadian Congenital Anomalies Surveillance System hospital on abortions. calculated by combining numbers occurring Results: The rate increased 11.7 per 10 000 pregnancies 16.2 1995, it subsequently decreased 8.6 1999. birth (live births stillbirths) 10.6 5.3 abortions with an or hydrocephalus rose 17.5 50.7 1995 fell 28.7 Interpretation: probably because prenatal better detection NTDs. decline may have been due among women at time conception.
