摘要: Intensive care units (ICUs) are limited-capacity, resource-intensive wards in a hospital designed to provide continuously monitored, intensive and temporary support critically-ill patients with broad range of health conditions. Therefore, their efficient operation management critical providing quality the most severely ill reducing costs for healthcare providers. Computer-based simulation analytical models have historically been used analyze ICU operational outcomes such as patient waiting times, bed occupancy rates, denied admission daily operating costs. This chapter highlights variety techniques that prevalent modeling, analysis, ICUs. Additionally, we describe an ongoing, multidisciplinary research project whose aim is develop empirically-validated discrete-event model performance multiple ICUs at local Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital.
