A maternity hospital-based infant car-restraint loan scheme: Public health and economic evaluation of an intervention for the reduction of road traffic injuries

摘要: AIMS: The results of an infant car-restraint loan scheme and evaluate its cost-effectiveness are presented. METHODS: intervention programme was initiated in 1996. Car-restraints, donated by manufacturers, were lent for a six-month period to eligible prospective parents modest fee. Specially trained health visitors performed in-person interviews with the participating parents. data collected recorded on pre-coded questionnaire. Cross-tabulations multiple logistic regression analyse data. Subsequent purchase next-stage car restraint, suitable older children (up four years age) considered as proxy measure success programme. This information, along detailed operational financial during implementation phase programme, used develop model assess countrywide intervention. RESULTS: During two-year 188 families participated survey. On return 92% participants reported proper use device 82% had already purchased second-stage restraint. Parental age, gender, or educational status not predictive positive parental road safety practices newly born, whereas history seat-belt use--as personal behaviour--was positively correlated likelihood purchasing device. ratio varies between 418.00 euro 3,225.00 per life-year saved, depending whether administrative fee is considered. CONCLUSIONS: basis plausible assumptions, car-restraints shown be particularly cost effective.
