In chloralosed and in decerebrated cats localized electrical stimulation of a discrete parahypoglossal area (including the nucleus intercalatus neighbouring region ventrolateral to hypoglossal nucleus) elicited cardio-acceleration arterial hypertension, either singly or together. 2. The cardio-acceleratory response was decreased by intravenous administration propranolol (2 mg/kg). another group experiments abolished acute bilateral cervical vagotomy but it observed return partially when applied one more hours after vagotomy. hypertensive not affected vagotomy. 3. Evoked activity with latency 3-10 msec recorded from pre- post-ganglionic sympathetic nerves during this region. 4.
