摘要: We estimate the causal effect of early retirement on mortality for blue-collar workers. To overcome problem endogenous selection, we exploit an exogenous change in unemployment insurance rules Austria that allowed workers eligible regions to withdraw from workforce up 3.5 years earlier than those non-eligible regions. For males, instrumental-variable estimates show a significant 2.4 percentage points (about 13%) increase probability dying before age 67. do not find any adverse females. Death causes indicate significantly higher incidence cardiovascular disorders among workers, suggesting changes health-related behavior explain increased male retirees.
