摘要: Straight, trapezoidal-shaped surface drainage channels efficiently drain the soil profile, but their deviations from natural fluvial conditions drive need for frequent maintenance. Ecological and socioeconomic impacts of ditch maintenance activities can be significant, leading to harmful algal blooms increased sedimentation. We developed a two-stage design that is more consistent with form process. The approach has potential enhance ecological services while meeting needs essential agricultural production. studied geomorphic change inset channel, benches banks seven ditches in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan. Three 10 years after construction, channel changes reflected adjustments, not all had reached quasi-equilibrium state. Ditches experienced both degradation aggradation on at rate 0.5-13 mm/yr. Aggradation was likely threaten tile outlets. Localized scour observed some sites, one site were statistically significant. Except removal woody vegetation, none required routine since construction. Two-stage stable, viable option management if designed installed properly landscape.
