摘要: This thesis discusses the control and operation of dividing wall columns. In particular attention is on Kaibel column, a four-product column with two side-streams. The has for given feed potentially 6 degrees freedom available once inventory loops are in place. These vapour rate, reflux side-stream rates split ratios liquid. They can be used to operate such way as meet predefined goals specifications. may formalized by an economic cost (or objective) function. Optimal when best possible terms function achieved. normal (in literature) evaluate columns minimize energy input while keeping product purities at specified values. good formulation potential savings compared conventional distillation sequences, particularly useful design phase. For existing within processing plant, other operational objectives also important, however. this work, optimal investigated from perspective different modes (objectives). It common separate system into layers based time-scale that operate. supervisory layer should help us achieve - operation, faster regulatory deal stabilization fast control. emphasis selecting correct controlled variables both layers. Methods self-optimizing applied aim dynamics more important layer. layer, importance utilizing liquid closed loop emphasized. A pilot plant been constructed during work thesis. Initial experiments have reported valuable lessons were learned about column. purposebuilt valve adjusting included apparatus. first experiment using manipulative variable reported.
