摘要: Summary Background Patients with optimum (>120/80 mm Hg), normal (120–129/80–84 and high (130–139/85–89 mm Hg) blood pressure (BP) may progress to hypertension (3·140/90 over time. We aimed establish the best frequency of BP screening by assessing rates determinants progression hypertension. Methods assessed repeated measurements in individuals without (BP Findings A stepwise increase incidence occurred across three non-hypertensive categories; 5–3% (95% Cl 4·4–6·3%) participants BP, 17·6% (15·2–20·3%) normal, 37·3% (33·3–41·5%) aged below age 65 years progressed 4 years. Corresponding 4-year for patients older were 16·0% (12·0–20·9), 25·5% (20·4–31·4), 49·5% (42·6–56·4), respectively. Obesity weight gain also contributed progression; a 5% on follow-up was associated 20–30% increased odds Interpretation High frequently period years, especially adults. These findings support recommendations monitoring once year, those every 2 they emphasise importance control as measure primary prevention
