Predicting lumber tensile stiffness and strength with local grain angle measurements and failure analysis

摘要: A mechanistic model is presented for predicting the tensile stiffness and strength of 2 by 4 lumber boards containing a single major face knot. The primary inputs to are local grain angle maps each wide board estimates average clear-wood properties. were obtained through electrical scanning surfaces represented in-plane orientation wood fibers. Out-of-plane dive angles not considered. simulates failure process that occurs within subject tension thereby provides insight to, understanding of, with defects. devoid empirical adjustment factors, it has produced predictions correlate measured strengths correlation coefficient 0.86 an absolute error 12%. It hoped gained use this will provide foundation improvements in grading.
