摘要: Inherited optic neuropathies share visual impairment due to the degeneration of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) as hallmark disease. This group genetic disorders are caused by mutations in nuclear genes or mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). An impaired function is underlying mechanism these diseases. Currently, lack an effective treatment, and implementation induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology would entail a huge step forward. The generation iPSC-derived RGCs allow faithfully modeling disorders, represent appealing platform for drug screening well, paving way proper therapy. Here, we review ongoing two-dimensional (2D) three-dimensional (3D) approaches based on iPSCs their applications, taking into account more innovative technologies, which include tissue engineering microfluidics.
