Using community-based participatory research to develop a culturally sensitive smoking cessation intervention with public housing neighborhoods.

摘要: Purpose To describe surface and deep structure dimensions of a culturally sensitive smoking cessation intervention developed with southeastern US public housing neighborhoods. Procedures Community-based participatory research (CBPR) methods were used to develop this by the following partners: academicians, neighborhood residents, community health workers, advisory board. This CBPR involved cyclical process phases: assembling team; identifying as need interest; developing method; establishing evaluation, feedback, dissemination mechanisms; implementing initial "Sister Sister" trial; analyzing interpreting data; disseminating results; revising intervention; and, mechanisms sustain outcomes. Culturally emerged during categorized structure. Findings Surface included written materials, incentives food, protocol delivery strategies. Deep kinships, collectivism, storytelling, spiritual expressions. Community workers board contributed identification integration both dimensions. The six-month continuous abstinence outcomes from trial 27.5% vs 5.77% for comparison groups, respectively. Conclusions facilitate processes in which can be effectively identified integrated into promotion interventions marginalized populations. incorporation increases acceptance feasibility, while improves overall impact efficacy intervention.
